Printmaking is an artistic process based on the principle of transferring images from a matrix onto another surface, most often paper or fabric. Traditional printmaking techniques include woodcut, etching, engraving, and lithography, while modern artists have expanded available techniques.
Etching is an intaglio printmaking process. Graphic concave technique. To make an impression, a copper or zinc plate coated with an acid-resistant varnish is required. A drawing is made on this plate using a steel needle. The plate is then immersed in a 10% solution of nitric acid, which etches out the material in the areas exposed by the needle. The impression resembles a pen drawing.
