ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
LINOCUT
A linocut is a relief print that involves cutting out an image or pattern on linoleum and transferring it to the surface using printing ink. Those parts of the project that will remain white are cut out: the process of cutting on linoleum is somewhat similar to drawing with a white pencil on a black background. The matrix acts like a stamp or seal, leaving a mirror image on the surface. If the background is to be white, the prepared linoleum pattern or image must be cut out of the matrix. The technique, used since the early 20th century, is similar to longitudinal woodcut (longo). Instead of a block of wood, a piece of linoleum is used in which the pattern is cut out using woodcut cutters.
